Women’s Tennis: Cajuns Top Braves in Dual Match, 5-2

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s tennis team picked up its third win of the season on Tuesday afternoon defeating Alcorn State 5-2 in a dual Match at Cajun Courts.
 
“Our team has played some pretty tough competition to this point in the season, and it was good to see them give a complete team effort today,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “Hopefully we can use the moment from this win to continue to grow as a team and get better.”
 
In doubles play, the Cajuns won at No.1 and No.2 to take a 1-0 edge. Milou Israel and Briggitt Marcovich registered an 8-2 win at No.1 doubles. Erin Wilbert and Sophie van den Aarssen captured the point at No.2 doubles defeating Chan Rutherford and Dari Rudd 8-5.
 
UL went on to win four of the six singles matches led by Isreal who picked up her fourth straight win at No.1 with her 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kersten Vanem.
 
The Cajuns also recorded wins at No.2 singles by van den Aarssen 6-4, 6-3, No. 3 singles by Erin Wilbert 6-1, 6-4 and at No.6 singles by Hannah Appleyard 6-3, 6-1.
 
Louisiana continues a three-game homestand on Sunday, March 4 at 3 p.m. when the Cajuns host Stephen F. Austin.
