Women’s Tennis: Cajuns Stay Undefeated, Beating Southern, 7-0

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Women’s Tennis remains on top of the Sun Belt Conference standings with a 7-0 win over Southern at Cajun Courts on Saturday morning. The win puts them at 4-0 on the year and 7-1 overall against the Jaguars.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns started the match with an advantage due to Southern having only five competitors, allowing Louisiana to only need one doubles match win to earn the point.
 
To start doubles, Louisiana’s team of Floriane Picaut and Dana Radovanovic took down Southern’s Tanaka Chakanyuka and Nandi Munyulawa, by a score of 6-3. Southern was able to take one of the doubles victories despite losing the point. The Louisiana doubles victory gave them the doubles point and a 1-0 lead over the Jaguars to begin the match.
 
To start the singles portion, the Ragin’ Cajuns earned a singles point as Southern didn’t court six players, upping the score to 2-0 in favor of Louisiana.
 
Only needing two more singles wins, Louisiana dominated its way to the win. First to claim a victory for the Ragin’ Cajuns was Radovanovic, defeating Anya King in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Radovanovic’s win increased the lead to 3-0 on the Jaguars.
 
The victory was secured when Lucie Raquin took care of Munyulawa also in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Her victory gave Louisiana a 4-0 lead and clinched the win for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Also finding themselves in the winner’s circle for Louisiana were Picaut, Mariona Perez Noguera, and Clara Mantaux. Louisiana won all six singles points to finish the match 7-0.
 
Louisiana Women’s Tennis will play two matches at home on Feb. 8 against Northwestern State at 12 p.m. and Feb. 9 against Incarnate Word at 1 p.m.
