Women’s Basketball: Wilridge Named LSWA Player of the Month
The Crowley, La., native averaged 14.0 points per game and dealt out a team-high 16 assists in the month of November
BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns senior guard Kia Wilridge was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Month on Thursday after helping lead the Cajuns to a 4-1 start, including two wins over SEC teams to begin the 2015-16 campaign. The Crowley, La., native averaged 14.0 points per game over five contests (second on team) and led the Cajuns with 16 assists. The 16 assists placed her in a seventh-place tie (245) in Cajuns history. WIlridge helped the Cajuns defeat two SEC teams (Ole Miss, Arkansas) in a 12-day span. She scored in double-figures in four of five games, including two 19-point performances against the University of Houston and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Through five games, her 48.3% shooting percentage is the best among Cajuns with at least 20 shot attempts. Wilridge is the first Ragin’ Cajun to win the award under fourth-year head coach Garry Brodhead.
