Women’s Basketball: Veal Named LSWA Player of the Week

Cajuns senior guard Keke Veal averaged 16.0 and 3.5 rebounds in a pair of wins last week.

 

BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns senior guard Keke Veal was a unanimous pick for Louisiana Sports Writer Association (LSWA) Player of the Week, announced on Wednesday.

Veal, an Opelousas, La., native, averaged a team-high 16.0 points to go with 3.5 rebounds, five assists and a team-best nine steals in a pair of wins last week over Alcorn State and Appalachian State. She tied her career high with six steals in a 60-51 win over Appalachian State and extended her double-digit points streak to 25 games. She is the first Cajun to win the weekly award this season. 

Veal enters the week ranked fourth in the Sun Belt Conference in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per contest. 

The Cajuns (9-2, 2-0 SBC) will travel to Little Rock to play the Trojans this Thursday, Jan. 7 for a 5:15 p.m. tip-off.
