LAFAYETTE, La. – After averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals to help the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team to a 2-0 week, junior guard Keke Veal was named the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.

Louisiana pushed its win streak to three games Saturday after a 65-58 victory at home over South Alabama. The Cajuns also took on Georgia Southern in Statesboro on Thursday, earning a 69-57 win over the Eagles in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

A native of Opelousas, La., Veal recorded a season-best 22 points Thursday, surpassing 700 for her career, while matching a season-high five steals in the win over Georgia Southern. She continued her strong play Saturday, scoring 13 of her 15 points in the second half to help the Cajuns erase a halftime deficit. Veal also added a team-high seven boards, a career-high five assists (all in the first half) and three steals to her stat line.

Veal ranks sixth in the SBC with 2.0 steals per game but leads the conference with 2.8 steals in league play. She is seventh with 3.3 assists and a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio, and 14th with 12.1 points per game on the season.

The Cajuns will look for their fourth-straight win tonight at 5 p.m. when they host in-state rival ULM at the Cajundome. Louisiana wraps up its homestand Thursday at 5 p.m. against Arkansas State.
