Women’s Basketball: Jones Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana-Lafayette’s Yolanda Jones was named the Sun Belt Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

In wins at Florida International and at home against North Texas, Jones averaged 26.5 points, including 4-of-7 from three point range, and 15.0 rebounds while adding five steals and three assists.

Jones’ 30 rebounds in the last two games, 13 of which were on the offensive glass, gave her the SBC rebounding title and made her the only player in the conference to finish the regular season averaging a double-double – having done so two consecutive seasons.

Her last basket at FIU pushed the senior forward over 1,000 career points in just 56 games – the third fastest in Cajuns history.

The Sun Belt Conference’s full weekly basketball releases will be available Tuesday so that they will include the 2006-07 All-Sun Belt Conference Basketball Teams.
