Women’s Basketball: Jaylyn Gordon Earns LSWA Player of the Week Honors

Jaylyn Gordon

BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns junior guard Jaylyn Gordon was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week Monday afternoon following a team-high 21 points in a 19-point win at ULM last Thursday.

Gordon buried six three-pointers, one shy of her career high. Her second quarter scoring surge of 17 points (5-of-8 on three-pointers) sparked a 26-13 run in the conference win after the Cajuns trailed 15-10 through the opening stanza. The Edgard, La., native also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go with three assists and three steals (tied for the team lead). Through the first six games of the season, Gordon is sixth in the Sun Belt Conference in scoring at 14.8 points per contest. Her 17 three-point field goals are first in the conference (2.8 per game).

Gordon is the first player to earn LSWA Player of the Week honors under fourth-year head coach Garry Brodhead. She is also first Cajuns player to earn the weekly recognition since Krystal Motley back on Jan. 16, 2012.

The Cajuns sit atop the Sun Belt Conference standings with an overall record of 5-1, and 1-0 in conference play. They return home for a brief two-game home stand beginning this Saturday, Dec. 12 against Dillard. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Cajundome.

Season tickets for the 2015-16 campaign are available by calling the Cajundome ticket office at (337) 265-2100, or by emailing Director of Tickets, Matt Casbon at mcasbon@cajundome.com.
