Women’s Basketball Honored at 2016-17 Team BanquetLAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team celebrated the 2016-17 season and honored several student-athletes at the team’s annual banquet at the Petroleum Club on Thursday evening. Head coach Garry Brodhead and the Ragin’ Cajuns were recognizing their third straight 20-win season and advancing to the Sun Belt Championship game for only the third time in program history. Senior guard Jaylyn Gordon received the Kim Perrot Offensive Player of the Year Award that was presented by Associate Head Coach Katherine Katz. Gordon led the league in scoring (17.9 ppg) and was second in 3-point field goals made per game (2.4). She was second in the nation in minutes played per game (38.6). Senior forward Gabby Alexander was the recipient of the Kim Perrot Most Defensive Charges of the Year Award that was presented by Associate Head Coach Deacon Jones. Alexander was second on the Ragin’ Cajuns this season in total rebounds (134). Freshman forward Kimberly Burton received the J. Kelly Hall Heart of a Cajun Award that was presented by Assistant Coach Amber Gregg. As a freshman, Burton played in all 31 games for the Ragin’ Cajuns this season and was fourth on the team in total rebounds (112). Junior forward Simone Fields received recognition for being named second team All-Sun Belt and third team All-Louisiana by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Fields was sixth in the league in scoring (14.5 ppg) and third in field goal percentage (.542).
