Women’s Basketball: Cajuns Honored at 2016 Team BanquetLAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team celebrated the 2015-16 season and honored numerous student-athletes at the team’s annual banquet at First Baptist Church Tuesday evening. Emceed by Ragin’ Cajuns radio play-by-play announcer, Steve Peloquin, the program reflected on and celebrated one of its most successful seasons in the history of Cajuns women’s basketball. Guided by 2016 Louisiana Sports Writers Association Coach of the Year Garry Brodhead, Louisiana completed a 25-win season, capped off with a second-straight Women’s Basketball Invitational Championship. The 25 wins matched the most victories in the history of the program, while the 2016 WBI title gave the Cajuns their first set of back-to-back postseason championships since the program’s inception in 1971-72. Senior guard Kia Wilridge earned the Kim Perrott Defensive Player of the Year Award. Senior forward Keke Veal was honored with the Kim Perrott Offensive Player of the Year Award with fellow senior forward Adrienne Prejean taking home the J. Kelly Hall Heart of a Lion Award. Wilridge led the Cajuns in rebounds with 188 this season and was a pilar on a defense that finished the 2015-16 season ranked 37th nationally in scoring defense, holding opponents to 56.8 points per game. Veal led the Cajuns in scoring this past season with an average of 17.7 points per contest. She carved her name at the top of the Cajuns all-time scoring list with 1,674 career points, second most in program history. Prejean was one of five Cajuns to play in all 35 games this season and moved into first place on the Cajuns all-time games played list with 124 during her four-year career.
