Wear Red 2012 – businesses are invited to participate – Cajun Field recognition

It’s time again to celebrate Wearing Red. On Aug. 31 2012, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will invite local businesses to participate in the seventh annual Wear Red Day. The university encourages you to Wear Red on Aug. 31 and every Friday to show your support for Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns_®.

The university invites businesses to contend for bragging rights for the most employees wearing red on Friday, Aug. 31. Entries will be divided into categories based on a company’s size. A spirit winner and a slogan winner will also be selected. Winners will be recognized as 2012 Wear Red Champions with an on-field presentation during a UL home football game.

Last year, more than 90 Acadiana businesses submitted photos for the competition. The small business winner was LaFamille Hair Salon, the medium business winner was Gachassin Law Firm, and the large business winner was Lafayette Consolidated Government. The Wear Red slogan or catch phrase winner was Lafayette General Medical Center, and the spirit award went to Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.

Entering is simple:

• submit a high-resolution, digital photograph of your group wearing red or your slogan.

• indicate the total number of people wearing red and the number of people employed by your business  

• post to www.facebook.com/RaginCajunsWearRed  

The deadline for entries is Monday, Sept.10

As part of the 2012 Wear Red celebration, the university would like to announce the opening of its Ragin Cajuns Red Zone, a fan shop located on the corner of Johnston St. and E. Lewis St. The Red Zone is scheduled to open this fall.

The university will also unveil a new university ring at halftime of the Sept. 1 home football game. Alumni and current students who have completed at least 90 credit hours can order a university ring at www.balfour.com. A university ring ceremony will take place on campus on Sunday, Nov. 18.
