Volleyball: Wisnsokie Receives AVCA Southwest Region Honor
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball freshman outside hitter Hali Wisnoskie was selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Southwest Region team, the organization announced on Tuesday. Wisnoskie, a first team All-Sun Belt performer and the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, was an honorable mention selection. She is now eligible for All-America consideration. "I am extremely excited for Hali," Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot remarked. "She is a talented player and student-athlete that will continue to grow and improve." Wisnoskie, also a three-time Sun Belt Freshman of the Week choice during the 2017 season, produced 332 kills on a .240 hitting percentage in her rookie collegiate campaign. It was the second-most kills recorded by a Ragin’ Cajuns freshman in the rally scoring era trailing only the 340 posted by Amie Goodwin in 2007. The Columbus, Texas, product generated double digit kills nine times in SBC play and 18 times overall. She hit .250 or higher in 13 of her double-digit kills performances. She played consistently throughout the season with her SBC play kills, digs and block per set numbers mirroring her overall figures. She capped the season earning all-tournament honors at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The 2017 season was the finest in Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball history in the Sun Belt Conference era (1991-present). The squad started Sun Belt play with a record 7-0 mark, posted the first winning conference mark since 2002 and set the school record for SBC wins (previous was 11 in 2000). The reward was the program’s highest seed ever (No. 3) in the SBC Tournament.
