Volleyball: Sydney Davis Receives Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week Honor

 Davis vs. Georgia Southern 10.20.18

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball senior libero Sydney Davis was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 15-21, the league office announced on Monday.

Davis turned in a 40-dig effort during last weekend’s Georgia State-Georgia Southern homestand, averaging 5.71 digs per set in leading Louisiana to its first Sun Belt Conference weekend sweep of the season.

The production also led her to becoming the Ragin’ Cajuns rally scoring era career digs leader. She pushed her career total to 1,888 digs which surpasses the previous rally era standard of 1,863 set by Lindsay Brown from 2007-10.

Davis collected 24 digs (6.00/set) against Georgia State, with 11 digs coming in the tiebreaking third set victory. She picked up 16 digs against Georgia Southern, highlighted by another 11-dig effort in the third set.

The Baton Rouge native received her fourth career weekly Sun Belt award. She was the recipient of SBC Defensive Player of the Week honors three times during the 2017 season (Sept. 18, Oct. 2, Oct. 30).

Davis has produced double digits in digs in all but one of the Ragin’ Cajuns 24 matches this season. She owns 98 career matches of double-digit digs and presently ranks 14th among active Division I players in career digs.

Louisiana heads west to Texas this weekend for Sun Belt West Division rematches with Texas State and UT Arlington. The Ragin’ Cajuns will be in San Marcos on Friday, Oct. 26 and in Arlington on Saturday, Oct. 27. First serve for both matches is at 6:30 p.m.
