Volleyball: Solid Start to Sun Belt Play Earns Bartczyszyn Honors

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball senior setter Jessica Bartczyszyn claimed Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Week honors for the second time this season after the league chose her as the recipient for matches played Sept. 18-24.
It’s the fourth consecutive week that the Ragin’ Cajuns had at least one representative on the list of weekly award winners which are voted upon by the Sun Belt’s head coaches.
She is the first Cajun to earn repeat setter of the week honors in a season since Andrea Hole claimed a pair of awards in 2014.
Bartczyszyn averaged 12 assists per set in both of Louisiana’s road wins in Georgia during Sun Belt-opening weekend. She directed Louisiana’s offense to a .256 hitting percentage and a conference-best 14.71 kills per set for the weekend in leading the program to its first 2-0 start in Sun Belt play since the 2010 season.
The Cary, Ill., product exited the weekend as the Sun Belt’s leader in assists per set in conference play.
In addition to totaling 84 assists over seven sets, the Cajuns setter’s weekend stat line also included eight kills, 13 digs and four blocks.
Bartczyszyn had a hand in all facets of the contest at Georgia Southern, posting five kills, seven digs and four blocks to go along with 48 assists as Louisiana won its SBC opener for the second straight season. On Saturday, she led the Cajuns to a .200-plus hitting percentage in all three frames of the straight sets sweep of Georgia State.
Louisiana returns to Earl K. Long Gym for the first time in four weeks and hosts the Sun Belt’s Arkansas schools Friday-Saturday, Sept. 29-30. The Ragin’ Cajuns face Arkansas State in the Sun Belt home opener on Friday, then battle Little Rock on Saturday. Both matches are set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
There will be a block party on the gym’s lawn on Friday prior to the ASU match headlined by a free concert performed by Geno Delafose and French Rocking Boogie from 4:30-6:00 p.m.
