Volleyball: Ragin’ Cajuns Capture Winning Mark in Sawyer Camillo Classic

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball earned a winning record in pre-conference tournament play following the conclusion of the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic at Earl K. Long Gym.

Louisiana (5-2) completed the event 3-1, securing the winning mark after a straight sets sweep (26-24, 25-19, 25-13) of Sam Houston State. The Ragin’ Cajuns landed 52 kills on a .328 percentage and never faced a deficit in topping the Bearkats.

Houston (8-0) was able to fend off a strong surge from the Ragin’ Cajuns in posting a 3-1 (25-13, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20) win in the tournament finale. Boosted by 30 kills over the final two sets, the Ragin’ Cajuns were able to extend the match to a fourth set.

Sydney Davis and Hanna Rovira represented Louisiana on the all-tournament team.

LEADING THE RAGIN’ CAJUNS
Dree’Ana Abram’s 14 kills on a .480 hitting percentage led a group of four Cajuns who hit above .300 against SHSU. Hali Wisnoskie’s 12 kills, plus nine from Nia Antoine and seven from Hanna Rovira added to the bulk of the offense.

Abram added six blocks (1 BS, 5 BA) to her stat line and Davis scooped a match-high 18 digs.

With a team-best 12 kills against Houston, Wisnoskie continued her season-opening string of consecutive matches with double figures. She poured in eight kills over the final two frames as Louisiana rallied.

Davis turned in a season-high 22 digs and Lexi Hebert reached double digits (12) to help pace the defensive efforts against UH. Hebert also provided a back-row kill on all four of her attack attempts.
