Volleyball: Cajuns Ease Past Warhawks Monday, 3-0

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana snapped its six-match losing streak, while continuing Louisiana-Monroe’s winless season in the process as the Ragin’ Cajuns eased past the Warhawks 3-0 (30-14, 30-16, 30-15) Monday night at Earl K. Long Gym. Louisiana (3-20, 2-6 Sun Belt) registered just four attack errors as a team, recording a season-high .470 attack percentage (43k, 4e, 83ta), while holding Louisiana-Monroe (0-20, 0-7 Sun Belt) to a .066 percentage. Freshman Caroline Dufrene (Lake Charles, La.) tallied a match-high 12 kills, recording an impressive .706 attack percentage (12k, 0e, 17ta). Junior Elizabeth Inman (Fort Worth, Texas) added 10 kills on 21 total attacks. The Warhawks were led by Jessica Ayodele’s six kills. Three others tallied five kills apiece. ULM was no match for the Cajuns from the onset as Louisiana hit .480 in game one en route to a 30-14 win. Louisiana forced seven ULM miscues as the visitors hit just .037 as a team in the opening frame. Amie Goodwin (Tucson, Ariz.) tallied four of the Cajuns’ 13 kills in game one, while Inman and Dufrene each added three. Louisiana’s dominance continued in game two as the Cajuns jumped out to a commanding 17-6 lead and held on for an impressive 30-16 win. The Cajuns scored the game’s first six points and never let the Warhawks challenge them. Dufrene led the Ragin’ Cajuns offensive attack with a game-high five kills, hitting a perfect 5-for-5 (1.000). The Cajuns recorded a .400 attack percentage, committing only three errors in the second game. The Cajuns held the Warhawks to nine kills, while forcing six ULM errors. UL continued to roll in game three as the Cajuns hit a season-best .536 in the final contest, tallying 15 kills, while committing no errors. UL trailed just once the entire match, falling behind ULM 1-0 at the beginning of game three. Louisiana quickly regained its composure to take a 17-7 lead, eventually holding on for the 30-15 triumph. Monica Deschaine (Boerne, Texas) registered five of her seven kills in the third and final game. Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns continue their six-match homestand this weekend against a pair of Sun Belt Conference opponents. Friday, Louisiana will face Denver at 7 p.m., followed by North Texas on Saturday (also a 7 p.m. match start). Louisiana-Lafayette def.
