Volleyball: BROWN EARNS ALL-LOUISIANA HONORS
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Sports Writers Association tabbed Lindsey Brown of the Ragin’ Cajuns volleyball team for second team honors on its recently released All-Louisiana College Volleyball Team. The nod is her first from the LSWA and the second in as many years for the Cajuns. Brown, a sophomore native of Yorba Linda, Calif., was named to the second team following her chart-topping first season as a libero for the Cajuns. She moved from outside hitter in 2007 to libero in 2008, following Head Coach Heather Mazeitis’ implementation of a new offense in her first year at the helm. In 2008, Brown played in all 100 sets for UL, while rising to first place on the Sun Belt Conference charts for digs per set against league opponents (4.28) and third in all matches (4.05). Under her defensive leadership, the team finished second in digs per set against conference opponents. The recognition follows Amie Goodwin‘s Freshman of the Year honors and honorable mention status from the LSWA after her breakout season in 2007. Goodwin was the first Cajun since 2003 to be honored on the all-state squad, when Elina Salomaki was an honorable mention. Brown, the Cajuns’ defensive leader in 2008, posted double digit digs in 22 of 26 matches, including six 20-plus performances and a season high of 24, one short of her career high. She finished the season with 10-plus digs in 13 of the last 14 matches and 20-plus digs in five. Brown also led the team in service aces with 24, including a career-high four versus Arkansas State. Brown maintained her status as UL’s "Iron Woman" playing in all of the season’s 100 sets after participating in 119 of 120 games as a freshman in 2007.
