Students at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette begin the fall semester of classes Monday. The campus is still booming with construction, but that won’t stop the Welcome Week activities. Monday, students can snack on free fruit and doughnuts beginning at 7 a.m. on Rex Street. Wednesday, students can find out how to get involved on campus at Get on Board Day, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. near Broussard and Lee halls. Thursday, students will enjoy a free Ragin’ Roar pep rally and concert, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Blackham Coliseum. Friday, Welcome Week wraps up with a free breakfast at 7:30 a.m. near Broussard and Lee halls and concludes with a block party from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on St. Mary Boulevard. And of course, Saturday brings the first home Ragin’ Cajuns football game of the season. The Cajuns take on Southern University at 6 p.m. at Cajun Field. WELCOME BACK STUDENTS Meet a few UL students who will be starting classes Monday: John Bowman • From: Albany, Louisiana • Rank: Freshman • Studying: Petroleum engineering • Expectations of the new semester: Being dedicated to my work, focusing on my education and getting a career out of it. • Course most excited about and why: Chemistry. It was a good course in high school. I’m pretty excited about taking it here. • How do you show your Ragin’ Cajun spirit? I show my Ragin’ Cajun spirit by wearing red on Fridays, and when I hear people chanting UL chants around here, I got to join in. It’s part of the spirit. Geaux Ragin’ Cajuns! Destiny Gordon • From: New Orleans • Rank: Freshman • Studying: Nursing • Expectations of the new semester: Getting good grades and passing my classes. • Course most excited about and why: Theater. I’ve just always loved theater. • How do you show your Ragin’ Cajun spirit? I wear my spirit shirts and dress in red most of the time. Stanford Bynum • From: Baton Rouge • Rank: Junior • Studying: Industrial engineering • Expectations of the new semester: Just another great year. • Course most excited about and why: Metal working, and that’s because I get to work with my hands. • How do you show your Ragin’ Cajun spirit? I’ll have to learn how to show it. I’m ready to do that. Rylan Moss • From: Texas • Rank: Sophomore • Studying: Mechanical engineering • Expectations of the new semester: Chilling with friends and having another great year. Hopefully working with my professors and getting more immersed in my major. • Course most excited about and why: Calculus Two, just because I enjoy the challenge that calculus brings and just being able to work toward learning what I know I’m going to be able to use later on in life. • How do you show your Ragin’ Cajun spirit? Extreme sarcasm, and I wear red on Fridays. Extreme sarcasm is part of my personality. I just like doing it. Athletic Network Footnote: Click here for Fan Day Photo Gallery.
