Track & Field: Whitehall Claims Shot Put Title; Fuselier, Walker Pace Cajuns At Aggie Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Tristan Whitehall captured his second individual title in the men’s shot put while Jasmin Fuselier and Taylor Walker each recorded top-5 performances in the women’s triple jump to lead the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team at the Aggie Team Invitational on Friday in the Gilliam Indoor Stadium.

Louisiana finished sixth overall in the men’s competition with 42 points with the women’s team finishing eighth with 30 points. UT Arlington (123.5) claimed the men’s title with Sam Houston State (141) claiming the women’s 14-team field.

"We really competed well in the limited number of events we entered for the meet, but after our first week back of full practice, we really looked tired and the results showed a bit," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "We did have some good performances from a few people, but you can tell the majority of our kids were coming off of a hard training week."

Whitehall, a junior college transfer, recorded a mark of 57 feet, 8 ½ inches to claim first-place honors with Spencer Nezat finishing fourth (47-4 ½) and Kenneth Nassar eighth (47-1 ½). Richard Delphin earned a third-place finish in the men’s weight throw, posting a mark of 52-10 ¾ with Landon Carroll placing eighth (48-7 ½).

In the men’s pole vault, Kyle Baudoin was one of three Cajuns to finish in the top-10 as he cleared the bar at 15-5 ½ to finish third overall. Caleb Wisecarver was eighth overall at 14-11 ½ with Josh McDaniels ninth at 14-11 ½.

Hanoj Carter made his 2016 debut for the Ragin’ Cajuns as he finished third overall in the 60-meter dash in 6.88 seconds. Tyler Hughes finished fifth overall in the 60-meter hurdles (8.21) while the men’s distance medley relay was sixth overall in 10:54.65.

Fuselier earned a pair of top-5 finishes as she placed third in the women’s triple jump (40-0) and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.91). Walker posted a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (39-9 ¾) with Amie Leitko finishing fourth in the weight throw (50-10 ¼), Lindsey Harmon eighth in the high jump (5-2 ¼) and Tisay Woodhouse posting a pair of top-10 finishes – a sixth-place finish in the shot put (43-1 ¾) and a 10th-place performance in the weight throw (48-10 ¼).

Freshman Hailey Hesterman finished 10th overall for the Ragin’ Cajuns in the mile run (5:29.19) while the women’s distance medley relay team was third overall in 12:36.21.

Louisiana will return to action on Friday, Jan. 22, when it travels to Jonesboro, Ark., to compete in the A-State Invitational and Multis at the Arkansas State Convocation Center.
