Track & Field: USL Father & UL Son Compete in Javelin at Louisiana Classics This Friday

USL Father & UL Son Compete in Javelin at Louisiana Classics at 5:00 This Friday

At the 2016 Louisiana Classics Track and Field Meet to be held on March 25-26 at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex, Cajun fans will witness a historical first on Friday – a father and son among those competing (unattached) in the javelin.  While Keith threw for USL, Peter may bring his year of unattached competition experiences to the benefit of himself and  the UL Track & Field Team in 2017.

Keith Kishbaugh is from a military family and is the son of a Marine Corps First Sergeant. He moved to Lafayette in 1972 and attended Comeaux School where he graduated in 1975. Keith attended USL after graduation and walked on the USL Track Team.

Under Coach Bob Cole’s tutelage, Keith worked hard to compete against much better and more experienced javelin throwers. In four years Keith placed 3rd 12 times in college meets.  To this day, he still competes in the Masters Track and Field circuit, running the 100 and 200 meters.

After 20 years he has picked up the javelin again after being inspired by his son Peter. Peter is a stellar  athlete with a wide-range of athletic abilities. While competing on the St. Thomas More track team last year, he set a meet record in the 200 meters at a Teurlings High School meet, after only four weeks of training.

An accomplished player while on the St. Thomas More team, Peter could have played college basketball.
Instead, he decided to stay home, focus on his studies, and prepare himself to run track for UL in the near future. In his first semester he made a 4.0 g.p.a. while majoring in Biology. He is striving for a repeat performance this semester. Peter is 6′ 5" and weighs 205 pounds.. He has a strong arm that is built for throwing the javelin. He started training with the javelin five months ago to see if he would enjoy the experience of training and competing in this event.

Peter competed in his first meet at McNesse two weeks ago. He placed 9th out of 20 competitors, throwing 177 feet. He has thrown 20 feet further in practice. Both father and son will be training through the off season and competing around the country this summer.
