Six members of the Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men and women’s track & field teams will participate in the NCAA East Preliminary Round next weekend on Thursday, May 26 through Saturday, May 28 at the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.

The meet will be held at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex in Bloomington. A total of 48 competitors will participate in each event before being narrowed down to 12.  The 12 finalists from the East and West preliminary rounds will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa in June.

Leading the way for the Cajuns is senior Jasmine Anderson who ranks 12th in the East region and 22nd nationally in the 110-meter hurdles. The All-Sun Belt honoree ran a time of 13.19 at the LSU Alumni Gold event on April 23 to qualify for the preliminary round.

Jasmine Manuel, the women’s Sun Belt triple jump champion, is 17th in the region with her jump of 41-10 ¾ (12.77m) at the Texas Relays.

In the men’s triple jump, O’Daylon Thibeaux earned an invitation after placing 19th in the regular season with a leap of 51-2 ¼ (15.60m).

UL has three men in the field competition events. Sophomore Albert Fournette holds the school record in the shot put, tossing 57-7 ¾ (17.57m) at the NSU Invitational on April 16. The New Orleans native is 25th in the NCAA East Region.

Jacob Domingue, the Sun Belt shot put champion, is tied for 28th in the region after his toss of 57-5 (17.50m) at the Sun Belt Conference Championships last weekend. Domingue is the only UL athlete to participate in multiple events, the Erath native is 32nd in the discus throw with a toss of 173-6 (52.89m).

Myles Melancon will also participate in the shot put, ranking 30th in the East with a toss of 57-2 ¾ (17.44m).

"We are down to the wire and excited about heading to Bloomington," said interim head coach Paula Ogunbanjo. "These athletes have worked hard this year and we are looking forward to them possibly qualifying for the national meet in Des Moines."

The qualifying round of the men’s shot put will be Thursday, May 26 at 1 p.m. The men and women’s triple jump and women’s 110-meter hurdles start on Friday. The men’s discus throw is scheduled for Saturday, May 28 at 5 p.m.
