Cajuns produce 10 top-5 finishes in 18-team event

BATON ROUGE – Beau Robinson claimed top honors in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, covering the course in 9 minutes, 11.99 seconds while Kyle Baudoin led a 1-2 finish in the men’s pole vault to lead the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team at the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
 
Stanley Limoh and Matt Wilson each claimed second-place honors their respective events while MacKenzie Marze added a third-place finish in the women’s javelin as Louisiana recorded 10 top-5 finishes in the 18-team event.
 
Robinson, the No. 1-ranked Sun Belt Conference athlete in the steeplechase, finished four seconds ahead of Texas State’s Logan Pittman to claim top honors for the Ragin’ Cajuns with Jonathan Kimutai finishing third overall in a season-best time of 9:22.30. Limoh, competing the men’s 1,500-meter run, clocked a time of 3:54.92 to finish second overall for the Ragin’ Cajuns with Kemondrick Walter (21.53) finishing fourth overall in the men’s 200-meter dash.
 
Baudoin (16-7 ¼) and Wilson (15-7 ¼) earned a 1-2 finish for Louisiana in the men’s pole vault with Chandler Mixon clearing 15-1 ½ to finish sixth.
 
Marze, ranked No. 3 in the SBC in the women’s javelin, recorded a throw of 148-8 for Louisiana to finish behind Southern Miss’ Callie Jones (163-4) and Rebekah Wales of LSU Olympians (160-4). Tisay Woodhouse posted season-bests in both the women’s discus (139-4) and hammer throw (173-10) for the Ragin’ Cajuns with Helena Tibbs earning a fifth-place finish in the women’s triple jump (36-11 ½).
 
Alena Hrusoci clocked a season-best time of 56.61 in the women’s 400-meter dash for Louisiana with Bartul Basic (212-8) and Hunter Stelly (202-5) finishing fifth and sixth overall in the men’s javelin.
 
Louisiana will return to action beginning on Friday (April 27) when it travels to Memphis, Tenn., to compete in the Memphis Invitational at the Billy J. Murphy Track & Soccer Complex.
