Track & Field: Men & Women’s Track Combines to Win Cowboy Relays

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Men’s and Women’s Track and Field programs combined to win the 2014 Cowboy Relays "Bob Hayes Louisiana Challenge" on Saturday, defeating seven other schools in a "Sweep Scoring" format to take home the title.
 
The tournament results consisted of the top three men and women combined as well as one relay from each school to decide the winners.  The Cajuns scored a total of 371.5 points, topping host McNeese State (305.5), Northwestern State (195.0), New Orleans (118.0), Xavier-Louisiana (67.0), Texas Southern (65.0), Nicholls State (45.0) and Southwest Christian (31.0). 
 
The Cajuns dominated in the field events, especially the pole vault, with the men placing four of the top five finishers and women grabbing three of the top four.  Michael Vani took the men’s pole vault crown with a height of 15-11.75, with fellow Cajuns Nicolas Laurant (15-0), and Josh McDaniels (15-0), coming in second and third.
 
On the women’s side, Emily Gale (11-5.75) came in second, with Meredith Driskell (11-5.75) coming in third and Amanda Gale (11-1) placing fourth.
 
The Cajuns men also picked up individual championships in field events from Harald Bust (High Jump/6-6.75), Devin Davis (Long Jump/24-8.25), and Albert Fournette (Shot Put/61-11).
 
The Cajuns women picked up individual championships in field events from Lindsey Harmon (High Jump/5-7), Tia Mitchell (Long Jump/19-6.25), and Tarvia Conway (Triple Jump/40-4).
 
Morgan Cormier was the Cajuns’ men top finisher in the sprinting or relay events, placing second in the 400-meter hurdle with a time of 53.13.  The Cajuns would find success in distance, with Matt Rice and Scott Brewster finishing first and second in the 1500-meter with times of 3:59.06 and 4:00.67, respectively. 
 
The Cajuns women picked up the top three places in the 3000-meter, with Anna Devitt (10:13.85) picking up 10 points with the win and Claire Hodges (10:17.17) and Courtney Musgrove (10:41.64) finishing third.   
 
Also picking up a track win for the Cajuns was Stacy Imagbe in the 100-meter category, coming in at a time of 12.03.
 
The Cajuns will have a bit of time off before traveling to San Marcos on March 27-29 to compete in the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Texas State.
