Track & Field: Marze Claims Javelin Throw As Ragin’ Cajuns Wrap Up Bobcat InvitationalMatt Sullivan, Director of Athletics Communications
Stelly, Singuineau, Williams, Hesterman produce personal-bests for Louisiana
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Freshman Mackenzie Marze claim top honors in the women’s javelin throw, posting a mark of 149 feet, 1 inch to lead the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team on the final day of the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday at the Bobcat Track and Field Stadium. Hunter Stelly, Shaquille Singuineau, Dominique Williams and Hailey Hesterman each recorded personal-bests in helping lead the Ragin’ Cajuns during the three-day meet at the same venue that will host the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships in May. Marze, a Lafayette native, led a trio of Ragin’ Cajuns to top-10 finishes in the women’s javelin taking over the lead on her third attempt of the day. Madison Meche earned a fifth-place finish for Louisiana with a throw of 128-9 with Claire Meyers finishing sixth at 126-3. Stelly recorded his fourth career throw of over 200 feet for Louisiana, posting a personal-best toss of 211-9 on his final attempt to finish behind Skyler Porcaro of Southern Utah (219-4). Bartul Basic, the Sun Belt Conference leader entering the meet, recorded a throw of 206-8 to finish sixth overall. Singuineau led a trio of Ragin’ Cajuns to top-10 finishes in the men’s shot put after finishing fourth overall at 53-7 ¾. Williams, who finished ninth, added a personal-best throw of 48-4 ¼ with Zach Lewis finishing 10th at 48-5 ¼. Hesterman claimed her heat and finished eighth overall for the Ragin’ Cajuns in the women’s 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:17.91, eclipsing her previous best (2:25.82) set at the 2016 Louisiana Classics. Juliette Smith recorded a time of 14.43 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish 14th overall while the women’s 4×400-meter relay team of Alena Hrusoci, Alex Morrow, Victoria Wayne and Hannah Siegmund placed fifth overall in 3:51.92. In the women’s triple jump, Taylor Walker earned a 10th-place finish for Louisiana after posting a mark of 39-3 ¼ with Alexa Johnson finishing 10th overall in the pole vault (11-7 ¾). Stanley Limoh claimed his heat in the men’s 800-meter run for Louisiana, finishing fifth overall with a time of 1:53.14 with teammate Jonathan Kimutai finishing eighth (1:53.77). Louisiana’s Tyler Hughes claimed a third-place finish in the men’s 110-meter hurdles (14.37) before the Ragin’ Cajuns 4×400-meter relay team of Kemondrick Walter, Kimutai, Limoh and Logan LaGarde placed seventh overall in 3:18.88. Louisiana returns to action on April 14-15 when it travels to compete at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala.
