Jasmine Manuel’s second place finish in the triple jump highlighted Friday’s action for Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men and women’s track & field teams at the 84th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays held in Austin.
Manuel, a junior from Hammond, set a new UL school record in the triple jump with her leap of 41-10 ¾ (12.77m). Her mark on Friday surpassed Cecilia Noel’s distance of 41-7 set on March 29, 1997. The distance currently ranks seventh in the nation. The Ragin’ Cajuns had two individuals place in the top-10 in the shot put. Jacob Domingue earned fourth with a toss of 55-1 (16.79m) and Myles Melancon was seventh with a throw of 53-9 ¾ (16.40m). Kenneth Bellard was ninth in the triple jump, leaping 48-9 ½ (14.87m). Meanwhile, Jasmine Anderson narrowly missed qualifying for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles with a run of 13.57. In the javelin throw, senior Jeri Ann Sills notched a distance of 120-2 (36.62m) to place 10th overall in the event. A run of10.56 in the 100-meter dash gave sophomore Justin Jones his best mark of the season. In the hammer throw, Garrett Harkless tossed a distance of 154-0 (46.93m). "We still need to improve, but we are getting good exposure this weekend," said interim head coach Paula Ogunbanjo. "We hope to build upon this experience and perform well tomorrow in the final day of Texas Relays." Louisiana returns to action in the final day of the Texas Relays on Saturday.
