NEW ORLEANS – It was quite the debut for Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field newcomer Tahj Whitfield.

After clocking a personal-best time in the men’s 60-meter hurdles at last week’s season-opener at the LSU Purple Tiger, the junior was named on Wednesday as the Sun Belt Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week in a vote by the league’s coaches and released by the league office.

Whitfield set a personal-best in the men’s 60-meter hurdles (8.16) in the preliminaries of the season-opening LSU Purple Tiger Invitational before coming back in the finals with a time of 8.17 to finish fourth overall. His preliminary time was the third-fastest on the Sun Belt Indoor Performance list during official opening week of action among league schools.

Louisiana will return to action on Friday when it travels to College Station, Texas for the Ted Nelson Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
