NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field athlete Chandler Mixon earned postseason honors from the 2020 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships when he was named as the Male Most Outstanding Field Athlete in a release by the league office on Thursday.
Mixon was one of five Louisiana student-athletes who earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors joining Dominique Williams, Shaquille Singuineau, Yves Cherubin and freshman Emoni Coleman.
The 2019-20 Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field specialty awards and all-conference teams, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Mixon, a second-team All-SBC selection, scored 17 points in the two-day meet finishing as the league’s runner-up in both the heptathlon and pole vault while finishing eighth overall in the 60-meter hurdles.
The New Iberia, La., native opened the meet for Louisiana with a second-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 16-9 ¼. Mixon finished second overall in the men’s heptathlon for the Ragin’ Cajuns, scoring 5,307 points, before adding an eighth-place finish in the men’s 60-meter hurdles (8.64 seconds).
Williams claimed the men’s weight throw for the second consecutive year for Louisiana after posting a school-record mark of 70 feet, ¼ inch to win the title by more than seven feet. Cherubin (8.07) finished second overall for Louisiana in the 60-meter hurdles while Singuineau recorded a throw of 53 feet, 9 ¼ inches on his first attempt in the shot put to finish second overall and become the first Ragin’ Cajun to earn All-Sun Belt Conference honors since Tristan Whitehall in 2016.
Coleman earned All-SBC honors as a freshman after her time of 2:14.78 in the women’s 800-meters was third overall.
Louisiana will open the outdoor portion of its schedule on March 14 when it travels to Lake Charles for the McNeese Cowboy Relays.
