Track & Field: Hrusoci, Rice Pace Cajuns At SBC Track ChampionshipsLAFAYETTE – Alena Hrusoci set a school and Sun Belt Conference Championship record in the women’s 400-meter dash while Matt Rice finished second overall in the men’s 1,500-meter run to lead the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team during the final day of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships on Sunday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Complex.
Louisiana finished seventh overall in women’s events with 61 points with the Ragin’ Cajuns finishing eighth in men’s events with 66 points. Arkansas State claimed the men’s title (149.5) with South Alabama claiming the women’s title (132). Hrusoci, who set the school-record in the 400-meter hurdles (58.73) last month at the LSU Alumni Gold, clocked a time of 57.74 to break the previous SBC Championship record (57.83) set by FIU’s Naim Yisrael in 2009. Hrusoci added a fifth-place performance in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 13.90 seconds with Jasmin Fusilier following in seventh (14.15). Rice posted a season-best time (3:54.54) in the 1,500-meters to finish second behind South Alabama’s Christopher Graf (3:54.43). Morgan Cormier added a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (53.35) for Louisiana with the men’s 4×100-meter relay team posting a fourth-place finish in 40.38. The Ragin’ Cajuns earned sixth-place finishes from both the women’s 4×100-meter (46.25) and 4×400-meter relay teams (3:48.55) with Kayla Thompson finishing eighth in the 100-meter dash (12.01). Dionte Heath added a seventh-place finish in the high jump (6-5 ½) for Louisiana with Kyle Baudoin finishing eighth (16-3 ¼) and Matt Wilson (15-9 ¼) ninth in the pole vault. Hanoj Carter (10.60) and Jeryl Brazil finished seventh and eighth respectively in the men’s 100-meter dash for the Ragin’ Cajuns with Beau Robinson adding an eighth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run (15:06.63).
