Track & Field: Four First-Place Finishes Helps Louisiana To Solid Performance At Aggie InviteCOLLEGE STATION, Texas – Kyle Baudoin set a meet record in the men’s pole vault, clearing 16 feet, 7 ¼ inches, to record one of four first-place finishes for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns indoor track and field team and helping the Cajuns finish second overall at the Aggie Team Invitational on Friday at the Gilliam Indoor Stadium. Beau Robinson (5,000-meter run) and Stanley Limoh (1-mile run) each claimed top honors in their respective events while the men’s distance medley relay team posted the second-fastest time in school history (10:16.23) to lead the Ragin’ Cajuns in their first of two scored meets during the indoor season. Louisiana finished second behind Sam Houston State (105.5) in the 13-team men’s event with 80.5 points with Texas A&M-Kingsville (74), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (50) and North Texas (46.5) rounding out the top five. On the women’s side, the Ragin’ Cajuns finished eighth overall with 42 points. SHSU scored 125 points to claim the women’s title with UNT scoring 64 to finish second. Prairie View scored 49 points to finish third overall and lead a group of seven schools mired in a logjam that was separated by nine points. A&M-Corpus Christi was fourth in the team standings (47) followed by Lamar (46), A&M-Kingsville (46), Incarnate Word (45), Louisiana (42) and Texas Southern (40). Baudoin, who eclipsed the meet record (16-6 ¾) set in 2015 by Jay Roberson of SHSU, cleared the bar on his final attempt to post the top mark in the Sun Belt Conference and finish ahead of SHSU’s Ashton Summers and Bailey Henderson. Robinson recorded a time of 15:00.09 in the 5,000-meter run to post the best time in the Sun Belt Conference this season and finish 16 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Cesar Gonzalez of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Ragin’ Cajuns teammates Dylan Heck (15:42.71) followed Robinson in the event, finishing fourth with Regan Lemaire (16:10.36) seventh. Limoh claimed his first title in the 1-mile run after posting a Sun Belt Conference-best time of 4:15.94 with Matt Rice finishing fifth (4:19.98). Tyler Hughes finished fourth overall in the men’s 60-meter hurdles (8.25). Rice ran the opening leg in the distance medley relay for Louisiana and helped the Ragin’ Cajuns post the sixth-fastest time in the country this season. John-Paul Bergeron, Limoh and Christian Bergeron closed out the event for the Ragin’ Cajuns, which set the previous record (10:16.10) in 2013. Tristan Whitehall, who set the meet record in the men’s shot put at last year’s event, finished second overall with a throw of 55-7 ½. Richard Delphin posted a fourth-place finish in the men’s weight throw (56-10 ¼) with Whitehall finishing eighth (54-6 ¾). Freshman Damon Guidry earned a third-place finish in the men’s high jump (6-8 ¼) with Franz Beyer (6-6 ¼) finishing sixth and Angus Sinclair (6-6 ¼) seventh. Seniors Tamela Young and Meredith Driskell each posted second-place finishes in their respective events with Lindsay LaGarde finishing third overall (10:29.90) in the women’s 3,000-meter run and Kayla Thompson seventh (25.38) in the women’s 200-meter dash. Young, competing in the women’s shot put, posted a throw of 46-2 to break the meet record with Amie Leitko finishing eighth overall in the women’s weight throw (51-8 ¼). Taylor Walker earned a pair of top-5 finishes for Louisiana, claiming fourth-place honors in the women’s triple jump (38-2) and fifth in the long jump (18-2 ½). Driskell, the Ragin’ Cajuns indoor record holder in the pole vault, cleared the bar at 12-2 ½ to finish second for Louisiana with Alexa Johnson finishing fifth (11-8 ½) and Kimberly Rushford sixth (11-8 ½). Louisiana will return to action on Jan. 27-28 when it competes in the A-State Invitational and Multi in Jonesboro, Ark.
