Track & Field: Davis, Lyons Earn Sun Belt Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field student-athletes Kelci Lyons and Devin Davis were each selected as the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week after their respective performances last week at the Texas A&M 13-Team Invitational, the league announced on Wednesday.

Lyons, a junior from Breaux Bridge, was named the co-Female Track Athlete of the Week after setting a personal-best in the 800-meter run for the second consecutive week. Lyons posted the second-fastest time in the Sun Belt Conference this season after finishing fourth overall in 2 minutes, 14.56 seconds. The time eclipsed her previous best (2:16.29) set in the Ragin’ Cajuns season-opener on Jan. 9 at the LSU Invitational.

Davis, a senior from New Orleans, was selected as the Male Field Athlete of the Week after setting a meet record and securing his second consecutive individual title in the long jump. Davis, a three-time All-Sun Belt Conference performer in the long jump, posted a personal indoor-best mark of 24 feet, 7 ¾ inches – the longest this season in the Sun Belt Conference and the seventh-best nationally in 2015.

Louisiana will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 24) when it travels to Jonesboro, Ark., to compete in the A-State Scarlet and Black Invitational at the Arkansas State Convocation Center.
