Track & Field: Carter Sets School-Record To Lead Cajuns At Jaguar Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Hanoj Carter claimed first-place honors in the men’s 200-meter dash, recording a indoor school-record time of 21.20 seconds to lead the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team at the Jaguar Invitational on Sunday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
 
Tristan Whitehall added a first-place finish in the men’s shot put for Louisiana with Tyler Hughes narrowly missing a school-record in the men’s 60-meter hurdles. Highlighting the Ragin’ Cajuns women’s team were Courtney Musgrove (5,000-meters) and Taylor Walker (triple jump) who each earned third-place finishes.
 
Carter, running in the first heat of the 200, eclipsed the school-record of 21.44 that was by Darrell Granger in 1990. The junior added a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash for Louisiana after crossing the finish line in 6.79.
 
Hughes, the current school-record holder in the 60-meter hurdles (8.07), clocked a time of 8.09 to finish second behind Kennesaw State’s Dayo Akindele (8.05). In the men’s 1-mile run, Beau Robinson finished sixth overall (4:21.66) with teammate Jacob Chicola crossing the finish line in seventh (4:25.66). Sophomore Bryce Robinson earned a seventh-place finish in the 5,000-meters with a time of 15:42.17.

Whitehall claimed his fourth title in the shot put in five events this season for the Ragin’ Cajuns after he posted a winning throw of 57-9 ½. In the men’s high jump, Franz Beyer (6-5) finished in fifth place for the Ragin’ Cajuns, with Dionte Heath (6-3 ¼) finishing sixth and Angus Sinclair (6-3 ¼) eighth.
 
Freshman Kyle Baudoin (16-3 ½) earned a seventh-place finish in the pole vault with Josh McDaniel (16-3 ½) placing eighth. Ricky Theyard (47-7 ¼) produced a fifth-place finish in the triple jump for Louisiana while Richard Delphin (56-7 ½) finished fifth overall in the weight throw.
 
Musgrove, competing in the women’s 5,000-meter run, turned in her second consecutive third-place finish after crossing the final line in 18:12.48. In the women’s 400-meters, Alena Hrusoci (57.55) finished seventh overall while Claire Hodges (5:06.98) was seventh in the 1-mile run.
 
Walker produced the top finish for the Ragin’ Cajuns in field events as her mark of 38-10 ¼ in the triple jump helped her to a third-place finish. In the women’s high jump, Lindsey Harmon finished sixth overall after clearing the bar at 5-4 ½.
 
Louisiana will return to action on Feb. 22-23 when it returns to Birmingham to compete in the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
