Track & Field: Carter Named SBC Male Track Athlete Of The Week

NEW ORLEANS – After setting an indoor school-record in the 200-meter dash that had stood for 25 years, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns sprinter Hanoj Carter was named on Wednesday as the Sun Belt Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week in a release by the conference office.

The honor for Carter, a junior, marked the third straight week a Ragin’ Cajuns athlete was honored. Sprinter Jeryl Brazil earned SBC Male Track Athlete of the Week honors on Jan. 27 with triple jumper Ricky Theyard earning SBC Field Athlete of the Week honors on Feb. 3.

Carter claimed first-place honors in the 200-meter dash at last week’s Jaguar Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., with a winning time of 21.20. The mark shattered the previous record (21.44) that was recorded by Darrell Granger in 1990. Carter’s time was the fastest recorded by a Sun Belt Conference athlete this season and is the ninth-fastest nationally.

Louisiana will return to action on Feb. 22-23 when it competes in the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex.
