Track & Field: Cajuns Host 2019 Louisiana Classics & Alumni Reunion This Weekend

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team will host the first of two meets during the 2019 season, welcoming 14 schools to the Louisiana Classics beginning on Friday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex.
 
Action begins on Friday with the men’s hammer throw at 2 p.m., with running events beginning at 6:30 p.m. The two-day meet will start on Saturday at 10 a.m., with field events before running events begin at 2 p.m. Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com. The meet is the first of two home meets this season for Louisiana, which will host the Cole-Lancon Conference Challenge on April 13.

Louisiana, competing in its second outdoor meet of the season, will be joined by Dillard University, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Loyola (N.O.), McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, North Georgia, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, Stephen F. Austin, Tulane, ULM and Xavier (N.O.).
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns opened the season last week at the McNeese Cowboy Relays, posting six first-place finishes and four top-5 marks in an 11-team field. Tyler Hughes claimed the men’s 110-meter hurdles crown in his 2019 debut for Louisiana with Damon Guidry (high jump), Kyle Baudoin (pole vault) and Shaquille Singuineau (shot put) each claiming individual men’s titles in their respective events.
 
Kimberly Rushford claimed the women’s pole vault crown (12-3 ¼) with the fourth-best mark in school history. Rushford led a 1-2 finish for Louisiana in the women’s pole vault with Alexa Johnson (11-11 ¼) finishing second. Maliya Crouch earned a second-place finish in the discus, posting the fifth-best throw in school history (137-2), with Claire Meyers finishing third in the javelin (143-0) and MacKenzie Marze fifth (135-10).
