Matt Sullivan, Director of Athletics Communications

Jeryl Brazil

NEW ORLEANS – After posting the second-fastest time in the country and 12-fastest time in the world this season in the men’s 60-meter dash, Louisiana’s Jeryl Brazil was named on Wednesday as the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Male Athlete of the Week.

Brazil, a senior from Loranger, clocked a school-record time of 6.55 seconds to claim the 60-meter title last week at the LSU Bayou Bengal. Brazil shattered his previous best and the school’s indoor record of 6.70 seconds set at the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.

His previous best time during the 2018 indoor season (6.71) came at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational in January.

Brazil’s time is the second-fastest collegiately behind Florida State’s Andre Ewers (6.52) and the fourth-fastest by an American runner behind Christian Coleman (6.37), Ronnie Baker (6.48), Ewers and Kirk Wilson (6.54).
