Cajuns finish sixth, eighth; will host 2020 SBC Championships

JONESBORO, Ark. – Seniors Kyle Baudoin and Tyler Hughes each capped off their final conference meet with All-Sun Belt Conference performances in their respective events and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team concluded action on Sunday during the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Arkansas State Track and Field Complex.
 
Both squads improved on their 2018 performances with the Ragin’ Cajuns men’s team finishing sixth with 88 points (up from 60.5) and the women’s team finishing ninth with 41.5 (up from 22.5).
 
Arkansas State claimed the women’s title, scoring 99 of its 155 points on the final day to overtake second-day leader South Alabama for the crown. Texas State claimed the men’s crown with 122.5 points, taking the lead with a 1-2-3 finish in the men’s discus before holding off Arkansas State (117) for the team title.
 
Baudoin was one of two Louisiana athletes to place in the top eight after clearing the bar at 16-8 to finish third overall. Matthew Standridge finished seventh overall for the Ragin’ Cajuns, clearing 15-8 ¼ and eclipsing his personal-best by a foot.
 
Hughes earned third-place honors for Louisiana in the men’s 110-meter hurdles after clocking a time of 14.12 with freshman Key Alfred posting a personal-best in the men’s 800-meters (1:52.56) to finish seventh.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns men’s 4×100-meter relay team of Hughes, Terroll JollaObdarius Ware and Kemondrick Walter recorded a season-best (41.23) and earned a fifth-place finish.
 
The freshman tandem of Rylan Theyard (48-11.75) and John Joseph (48-6) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, for Louisiana in the men’s triple jump with Damon Guidry earning a fourth-place finish in the men’s high jump (6-9 ¾).
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns capped off the meet posting season-bests in the 4×400-meter relay with the men’s team crossing the finish line in eighth place (3:16.96) with the women’s team clocking a time of 3:56.21 to finish eighth.
 
Louisiana, which will host next year’s Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex, will return to action May 23-25 at the NCAA East Preliminary Meet in Jacksonville, Fla.
