Track and Field: Leleux, Robinson Named Sun Belt Athletes Of The Week

Beau Robinson

Duo set school records in leading Cajuns at Louisiana Classics

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field athletes Morgann Leleux and Beau Robinson highlighted four honorees who were named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Student-Athletes of the Week in a release Wednesday by the league office.

Leleux, a senior from New Iberia, La., was named the Sun Belt Women’s Field Student-Athlete of the Week after setting a school- and Sun Belt Conference record while recording the nation’s fifth-best mark in the pole vault last week at the Louisiana Classics. Leleux, who was making her debut for the Ragin’ Cajuns after transferring from Georgia, cleared the bar at 14 feet, 1 ¼ inches to shatter the previous school record (12-8 ¼) that was set in 2015.

Robinson, a sophomore from Luling, La., was named the Sun Belt Men’s Track Student-Athlete of the Week after clocking the fastest time in the Sun Belt Conference this season and setting a new school-record in the men’s 10,000-meter run. Robinson’s time of 30:56.75 took first-place honors at the Louisiana Classics while breaking a 28-year old school record in the event.

Louisiana will return to action beginning Thursday as selected members will compete in the 89th annual NIKE Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
