Track and Field: Fournette and Manuel Land on 2012 NCAA Outdoor All-America ListLAFAYETTE – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced this week the All-America lists for the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field season and two Ragin’ Cajuns made the list.
Representing the Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field program were Albert Fournette and Jasmine Manuel. Fournette was honored as a second team All-America member after his 13th place finish at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Fournette finished 13th out of the 24 shot put competitors who advanced to Des Moines with a top measurement of 18.59m/61-0. Athletes who finish ninth through 16th in an event at the NCAA championships are awarded second team All-America honors. The New Orleans native, who claimed Sun Belt titles in the shot put during the indoor and outdoor season, reached 60-plus feet in a meet for the eighth time this season. Fournette picked up his second All-America honor of the 2012 track season. He was awarded second team honors during the indoor season following a 12th-place finish at the national meet in the shot put with a toss of 18.62m/61-1 ¼. Manuel was also recognized by USTFCCCA, receiving honorable-mention All-America honors for her efforts at last week’s NCAA Championship. Manuel placed 17th in the women’s triple jump, registering her placing measurement of 12.82m/42-0 ¾ on her third and final attempt. She was a tiebreak away from earning second team All-America honors, as she actually finished in a tie for 16th place with Missouri State’s Kimsue Grant, but lost the tiebreaker. Manuel did manage to sail past 40-plus feet for the ninth time in 2012 (adding in indoor performances), capping off a strong senior campaign in the triple jump. Manuel also collected her second All-America honor of 2012. During the indoor season, she earned first team All-America status following a fourth place finish on the strength of a leap of 13.31m/43-8 at the national meet in Nampa, Idaho. The two additional All-America honors received this week increased the total number of All-Americans in head coach Lon Badeaux’s inaugural season to five. In addition to Fournette and Manuel, Chris Roy collected All-America honors (second team) during the indoor campaign. — Ragin’ Cajuns — Matt Hebert Cox Communications Athletics Center Office: (337) 482-6330 ![]()
