Tennis: Ragin’ Cajuns Named To ITA All-Academic Team For Fifth Straight Year

LAFAYETTE – After a successful season both on the court and in the classroom, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team for the fifth straight year in a recent release by the ITA.

The Ragin’ Cajuns, under head coach Mark Jeffrey, recorded a 3.54 team grade point average during the Spring 2015 semester – the highest recorded team GPA in the program’s history and the 10th consecutive semester with a team GPA above 3.0. During the Fall 2014 semester, the Ragin’ Cajuns posted a 3.50 GPA.

"This is very impressive because this program is also operating at a very high level athletically," Jeffrey said. "For the guys to be able to keep up with their studies and athletics at such a high standard speaks volumes to them and the support they receive from the administration and the coaches."

Individually, seven members qualified for the ITA All-Academic Award after posting a cumulative 3.50 GPA for the 2014-15 academic year. Recipients of the award included: Carl Alberton, Damian Farinola, Jake Wynan, Jarred Wynan, Rok Sitar, Vlad Kramarov and Zac Fremin.

To qualify for the ITA Team Academic Award, teams must average a team GPA of 3.20.

The Ragin’ Cajuns start the 2015-16 season Sept. 24-27 with the 2015 Cajun Tennis Classic, bringing in five of the top 13 teams nationally to Cajun Courts.
