Tennis: Cajuns Bow Out at ITA/USTA Regionals

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men’s and women’s tennis team had a tough day as they both bowed out of the main draws at the ITA/USTA Regional Championships on Saturday.

For the second straight day, Carlin Murray proved victorious on the men’s side in Tuscaloosa, Ala. but would ultimately fall in the next round.

For the women, Audrey Wooland had a good showing but eventually fell in the round of 16 to the overall No. 5 seed on Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.

Men’s Recap
Murray put up another convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Anas Rouchidid of Troy inm the round of 32. On Friday, Murray won another impressive match 6-3, 6-4 Idan Mark of Tulane in the round of 64.

But his streak came to end Friday night as he fell in the round of 16 to No. 5-seed Tucker Voster of Ole Miss – 6-3; 6-3.

For Murray, the ITA/USTA Regional is the first tournament the junior has competed in this fall.

Women’s Recap
After advancing through the first two rounds, Wooland had trouble with the overall No. 5 seed, Mary Ann McFarlane of Alabama. Wooland dropped two sets – 6-0; 6-0 – as her tournament run ended.

The consolation bracket, Julie Mazinova and Milou Israel picked up wins to move on to the quarterfinals. Mazinova moved on with a win over Leonie Gjuit of Troy. Israel won 7-5; 6-2 over Vivaan Vlaar of Ole Miss.
