Sun Belt Softball: Verde, Player of the Week; Cuevas, Pitcher of the Week

Player of the Week In five games this past week, Verde hit .533 (8/15) with a double, three home runs, and nine RBI. Verde had 18 total bases and a slugging % of 1.200, scoring five runs. Verde also had two base on balls in the five game stretch in which the Cajuns were 4-1 with two wins over Houston and took 2 of 3 from Troy. Defensively, Verde had 22 chances at 3B and only made one error. Pitcher of the Week Brittany Cuevas (Fr., ULL) Cuevas pitched three complete games this week, pitching 19 innings, giving up four hits and no runs, in compiling a 3-0 record for the week. All four hits given up were singles, as shed did in not allow an extra base hit in her 19 innings of work. Cuevas struck out 22 opposing hitters in the three games and had an ERA for the week of 0.00. Cuevas pitched a two hitter in a 5-0 win over Houtson on Wednesday. On Saturday she pitched a no-hitter in a 7-0 win over Troy and followed up with a two-hit 8-0 shut out over Troy on Sunday. Cuevas pitched complete games in all three contests, with Sunday’s game being a five inning, run rule game. Cuevas is now 25-7 overall for the season. Keith J. Nunez
