Student-Athlete Advisory Committee: Ragin’ Cajuns Athletes Lend Helping Hand For Food DriveLAFAYETTE – Members of the Ragin’ Cajuns Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) recently set aside time to help families in the Acadiana area. As one of their annual fall projects, the committee participated in the KLFY-TV 10 & FoodNet Food for Families Food Drive.
FoodNet is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing food to low income families, people in crisis and the working poor. Their commitment is to eliminate hunger in the community and involve the public in the process. This year the UL Athletics Department’s format for collecting the food items was different from year’s past. The SAAC challenged each of the Cajuns teams to collect canned goods in a competition format. For example, softball collected canned goods at their final home contest of the fall 2012 season against Galveston College. In addition, athletic department staff members, coaches and student-athletes were challenged to donate canned good items to help the cause. On Wednesday, members of the SAAC delivered the items to the Cajundome drop-off location. The committee members appeared on KLFY’s Meet Your Neighbor afternoon television program with Gary Arnold and Michael Dupre.
