Sports Briefs: Brandon Stokley (Signs), Ashley Brignac (POW), Tyla Hudspeth (Boston Marathon)

Daily Advertiser, April 17, 2012

DENVER — Free agent wide receiver Brandon Stokley has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Broncos, a league source said Monday and the team later confirmed to nfl.com.

Sources said Friday that the former Comeaux High and UL standout was drawing interest from the Broncos, and had been set to make a visit and have medical tests performed.

Stokley, 35, played with new Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning from 2003 to 2006 when both were members of the Colts. Stokley played for the Broncos from 2007 to 2009.

Brignac named weekly Sun Belt honoree

Ashley Brignac was named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

The weekly honor is the second SBC accolade picked up by the senior and the ninth overall for the No. 7-ranked Cajuns (38-2, 13-2), who wrapped up their six game road trip with a 5-1 record.

Brignac tossed four complete games, including two shutouts, improving her record to 15-2 on the year. She was lights out all weekend and hurled her sixth one-hitter of the season in an 8-0 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday. The senior moved into third place all-time in school history with her 85th career victory on Sunday.

The Cajuns return to action this weekend as they play host to FAU in a three game series.
