Softball: Wallace Garners LSWA Pitcher of the Week Award

Contact: Cory Weigel

LAFAYETTE, La. — UL’s Jordan Wallace was named Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association (LSWA) Pitcher of the Week, Thursday as voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.

Wallace finished the week 3-0 and became the first Cajun’s pitcher to 10 wins on the season with her Sunday victory over North Texas. The freshman’s most notable performance was a complete game three-hitter at Houston, a team that eliminated Louisiana in the 2011 Austin Regional. The Weatherford, Texas native fired 19.1 innings, while going the distance in two of the three games and struck out 12 hitters.

“Every time out, Jordan continues to learn and grow,” said co-head coach Michael Lotief. “It’s a process and give her credit for putting in the hours and trusting, but we all realize we still have miles to go and we are eager for the challenges ahead. Thanks to the Sports Writers for the honor and giving a good kid some recognition for her hard work and positive approach.”

The award was the first nomination for Wallace and the fourth of the year for the Cajuns.

UL returns to action on Thursday as they open up the Judi Garman Classic, Thursday, against No. 5 Arizona State at 9:30 p.m.
