Softball: Wallace Earns Sixth LSWA Pitcher of the Week HonorLAFAYETTE, La. – For the second consecutive week, UL freshman pitcher Jordan Wallace and LSU junior hurler Rachele Fico shared the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Softball Pitcher of the Week award Thursday as voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.
Wallace secured a pair of wins against Western Kentucky and improved her mark to an unblemished 23-0. Her 23-0 record is the best start for a freshman to begin her career in NCAA history. She fired her 16th complete game of the season, a two-hitter, during a 2-1 victory over Western Kentucky. The Weatherford, Texas, native came in relief and reeled off six frames of one-hit ball fueled by six strikeouts. The accolade is the sixth of the year for Wallace from the LSWA and 11th overall for the No. 5/6 Cajuns (44-2, 19-2). Louisiana clinched their 11th Sun Belt Regular Season Championship in the league’s 12-year history with the sweep of Western Kentucky last weekend. The Ragin’ Cajuns conclude their regular season against La.- Monroe in a three game series this weekend, May 5-6 at Lamson Park. Sunday’s game will be senior day, as UL will honor Ashley Brignac, Paige Cormier, Megan Granger, Erikka Murphy, Callie Philen, Christi Orgeron and Katie Smith before the game, which is scheduled to start at noon. –Ragin’ Cajuns– — Cory Weigel
