The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America announced today the final invitees to the 2011 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Camp, which includes Ragin’ Cajuns Ashley Brignac and Christi Orgeron.

Brignac and Orgeron will travel to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., June 12-17. There will be 37 collegiate players in attendance at the camp, vying for 17 spots on the 2011 USA Softball Women’s National Team.  The final team will be announced on Friday, June 17.

Brignac and Orgeron travel to California just weeks after leading the Cajuns to yet another successful season, including 51 wins and a 13th straight appearance in the NCAA postseason.

Brignac posted a 32-7 record in 2011 with a 1.50 ERA.  In 2011, she tossed three no-hitters to bring her career total to seven.  Because of her efforts, Brignac was named the Sun Belt’s Pitcher of the Year and was a Second Team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region pick.

In her career, the Cajuns’ junior ace has posted a 71-17 record with a 1.29 ERA.  She has fanned 678 batters in 541.0 innings of work.  The River Ridge, La., native is also an excellent defensive pitcher, having committed just one error in her three years in the circle.

Orgeron, named the Sun Belt’s Player of the Year in 2011, posted a career-best .414 batting average while leading the nation with 101 RBI.  That triple-digit RBI total marks the third highest single-season total in NCAA history and the highest since 1996.  The junior outfielder also finished the season second in the NCAA in home runs (23) and runs scored (75).

In her three year career, Orgeron has hit 48 home runs, 51 doubles and seven triples for a .723 slugging percentage.  She has posted 194 RBI and is currently a .349 career hitter.

The USA Softball Women’s National Team will compete in six different events in three countries. Fans in the United States will get four opportunities to see the team in action with three exhibition stops scheduled as well as the World Cup of Softball VI, July 21-25, in Oklahoma City.

The 2011 Women’s National Team will also seek the program’s eighth Pan American Championship title at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, Oct. 17-23.
