Softball: Three Cajuns Tabbed All-RegionThree members of Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns softball team were named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region team as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday. A total of 256 players from 116 different institutions comprise this season’s regional teams, including first and second teams for each region. Vallie Gaspard and Christi Orgeron picked up first team honors while Donna Bourgeois was selected to the second team. Gaspard leads all Cajuns with a .421 batting average and team-high 72 hits. Her average currently ranks 21st in the NCAA. Last week, Gaspard was tabbed First Team All-Sun Belt. It is her first career NFCA All-Region selection. Orgeron is tied for first on the squad with 15 home runs. She also has a team-best 16 doubles and 56 RBI. She also earned Second Team All-Sun Belt honors this season. It is her first career NFCA All-Region selection. For the second straight season, Bourgeois picks up All-Region honors. Last season she was tabbed to the first team. As a second team selection this season, Bourgeois sports a 1.84 ERA and a record of 22-9. At the Sun Belt Conference Championship, she was named First Team All-Sun Belt and picked up Co-Most Outstanding Player honors after throwing 14.0 inning of scoreless softball, including a 12-strikeout, no-hitter against FAU. The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration. The NFCA Division I All-American teams will be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, June 2.
