Softball: School Record For Consecutive Weeks in Top 10 ReachedLAFAYETTE – The No. 9/9 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball team established a new school record for consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of either national poll, reaching 11 consecutive weeks inside the Top 10 of the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 in Tuesday’s release of the polls. ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll Louisiana (34-5, 17-3 Sun Belt) came in at No. 9 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll for the third straight week. Preseason ranked No. 9 in the poll, the Cajuns have been as high as No. 6 (Feb. 16, Feb. 23) and no lower than No. 10 (March 30). The new school record 11 straight weeks in the Top 10 of ESPN/USA Softball poll topped the previous record, in either poll (USA Softball or NFCA), of 10 straight weeks set in 2012 NFCA poll (March 12-May 7). The Ragin’ Cajuns remained at No. 9 in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll for the second straight week. Louisiana has been in the Top 10 of the NFCA rankings in 10 of the season’s 11 weeks. Preseason ranked No. 9, the Cajuns were inside the NFCA Top 10 the first seven weeks before falling to No. 12 back on March 30. UL rejoined the NFCA Top 10 on April 7 at No. 10 and has been in the elite group the last three weeks running. The No. 9/9 Ragin’ Cajuns, winners of nine straight games, are set for a Top 10 showdown with No. 2/2 Oregon (38-5, 16-2 Pac 12) this weekend at Howe Field in Eugene, Ore., on the University of Oregon campus. It will be Louisiana’s fourth weekend series against a ranked team and third against a 2014 WCWS participant (Alabama, Baylor, Oregon). The three-game series with the Ducks begins Friday, April 24 with a 6 p.m. (CDT) single game and concludes on Saturday, April 25 with a 2 p.m. (CDT) doubleheader. All games in the series are being broadcast in the Lafayette area on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-AM with Steve Peloquin calling the action. After the Oregon series the Ragin’ Cajuns conclude the regular season and Sun Belt Conference play May 2-3 in Monroe at ULM, then travel to San Marcos, Texas for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament May 6-9 at Bobcat Softball Stadium on the campus of Texas State University.
