Softball: Sanders Named To USA Softball Junior Women’™s National Team

DJ Sanders

Sanders is one of 17 athletes selected to the team

IRVINE, Calif. – Louisiana softball freshman infielder DJ Sanders was among the 17 athletes that were selected to the 2015 USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team (JWNT), the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced.

Sanders was named to the squad by members of the Women’s National Team selection committee after a two-day selection camp in Irvine, Calif. The 17 athletes will compete in the World Cup of Softball X in Southern California, June 29-July 5, and the International Softball Federation (ISF) Junior Women’s World Championship, Aug. 9-15, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

"We are so proud of DJ," said head coach Michael Lotief. "She is the kind of competitor who will shine on that stage because of her skills, confidence and composure. Plus, she has the character that is worthy to wear USA. Whenever one of the Ragin’ Cajuns excel or receives an individual award, we know it is a reflection of us – her teammates, University and awesome fan base. Congrats to DJ and the Ragin’ Cajuns softball family."

Louisiana was one of 11 universities represented on the roster. The JWNT is under the direction of Tairia Flowers (Cal State Northridge) with assistants Trisha Ford (Fresno State), Kristie Fox (UT Arlington) and Tim Walton (Florida) completing the 2015 coaching staff.

Sanders and the Ragin’ Cajuns begin the 2015 season, Feb. 6-8, with the Louisiana Classic at Lamson Park. The Cajuns will take on North Carolina State at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 in their season opener.
