LAFAYETTE – Coming off a record-breaking performance against in-state rival ULM, senior infielder Hunter Kasuls has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday morning.

Kasuls is the third Ragin’ Cajun to garner weekly Sun Belt recognition this season, joining sophomore Hayden Cantrelle and junior Brandon Young. It is the first weekly league award of Kasuls’ career.

The Richmond, Texas, native was on an absolute tear in Monroe, recording 10 hits in 15 at bats, driving in eight runs and scoring six of his own. He smacked a home run in all three games, including a ninth-inning solo shot on Friday to spark a late-game rally en route to stunning the Warhawks with a 13-9, come-from-behind win.

He capped the weekend off with a 6-for-6 effort at the plate in Louisiana’s 19-8 rout of ULM, making him the first player in program history to produce six hits in a single game. He finished that game with five RBI and three runs scored.

Kasuls and the Ragin’ Cajuns begin their Sun Belt Tournament journey on Tuesday evening when they face Appalachian State in Conway, South Carolina. First pitch in the First Round of the tournament is slated for 5:30 p.m. (CST)
