Softball: Hayden Named Top-10 Finalist for Inaugural NFCA Freshman of the Year Award
LAFAYETTE, La. – With 14 home runs, 50 RBI and a .337 batting average, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns freshman outfielder Haley Hayden was named a finalist for the Inaugural NFCA Freshman of the Year Award, as announced by the NFCA Office on Thursday.
Hayden is one of just two finalists from a non-major conference, on the list of ten players that includes three players from the SEC, two from the Pac-12 and the Big Ten, along with one from the ACC, and Big West.
The West Monroe native ranks second in the conference in both home runs and RBI, behind teammate and Sun Belt Player of the Year, Lexie Elkins, and has scored 55 runs in 49 games.
The list will be trimmed down to a final three on May 22, with the award being presented on May 27 during a live ceremony prior to the opening of the annual Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
