Softball: Hamilton Earns Second Sun Belt Pitcher of Week Award


 
LAFAYETTE, La. – After posting a 0.70 ERA over 20 innings, including 13 shutout innings against Troy, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns pitcher Christina Hamilton has been named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
 
Hamilton picked up her second Pitcher of the Week honor of the season, winning her first on March 17, and fifth weekly honor of the season for the Cajuns.  Lexie Elkins won the Player of the Week award twice (Feb. 10, April 7) and Natalie Fernandez won on March 24. 
 
Hamilton went 3-0 on the week with a 0.70 era, tossing the complete game and allowing two earned runs against McNeese State on Wednesday, and nearly throwing back-to-back complete game shutouts against Troy.
 
The junior from Leesville held the Trojans to five hits, while fanning 10 in the shutout effort in the doubleheader opener, and came back to toss 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and fanning eight.  She also did not walk a single batter in her 13.0 innings over the weekend.
 
Hamilton and the Cajuns will now head to Baylor to take on the Bears in a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday, first pitch in game one is scheduled for 4 p.m.  The games will be regionally broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest, with John Morris on the call and Megan Turk having the color commentary duties.  Fans in Acadiana can also listen to the games on TalkRadio 960AM and around the world on TalkRadio960.com with Steve Peloquin on the call.
